LOUISA MAY ALCOTT, Set of 8, published by Roberts Brothers, Boston; 1881-1886.

SET INCLUDES: Little Women, Little Men, Jos Boys, Eight Cousins, Under the Lilacs, Rose in Bloom, Old-Fashioned Girl, Hospital Sketches

CONDITION OF BOOKS:
All of the books have significant scuffing along the tops and bottoms of the spine.

The "Little Women" volume has a entirely loose title page and the inside of the front cover is loosening but it is intact. It's obviously the most used volume of the set and has the most wear and tear.

"Little Men" is cracked along the inside of the front cover at the title page but it is still intact. The title page is completely loose but present in the book.

"Jo's Boys" is cracked on the inside of the front cover, loose title page, but the book is intact.

"Eight Cousins" is cracked on the inside of the front cover, but still intact. The spine is loosening.

"Under the Lilacs" ha a cracked front cover but still intact. The top of the spine is torn.

"Rose in Bloom" has significant staining on the bottom fore edges.

"Old-Fashioned Girl" has a pock mark on the front cover along the spine and a stain on the bottom fore edge.

"Hospital Sketches" is beginning to crack on the inside the front cover and the top of the spine is torn.

The books definitely have some wear and tear but they are still holding up pretty well for being almost 150 years old. They are in decent shape. I would handle them with great care and use them more for historical value/decorative purposes than to handle and read.

ABOUT LOUISA MAY ALCOTT:
Louisa May Alcott wrote with a heart tuned to home, family, and the quiet courage of everyday life. Her stories—most lovingly Little Women and its companions—are filled with spirited girls, thoughtful boys, and imperfect adults learning how to be kind, brave, and true to themselves. Alcott had a gift for finding meaning in ordinary moments: shared meals, sisterly quarrels, small sacrifices, and hard-earned joys. Across her novels and short stories, you can sense her belief that character is shaped by love, work, and empathy, and that growing up is less about perfection than persistence. That warmth and honesty are why her books still feel like trusted friends, continuing to comfort, guide, and inspire readers who return to them whenever they need reassurance that goodness, imagination, and hope belong in everyday life.
