John Greenleaf Whittier (1807–1892) was an American Quaker poet, abolitionist, and champion of social justice. Rooted in the New England tradition, his works reflect deep moral conviction and pastoral beauty. Whittier's poetry, including Snow-Bound: A Winter Idyl and Voices of Freedom, celebrates rural life, faith, and the fight against slavery. A founding figure of American literary activism, he used verse to inspire change, blending simplicity with profound emotional depth. His complete works remain a testament to his belief in equality and the enduring power of poetry to shape hearts and minds.
This 7-volume set explores the writings of Whittier's lifetime, including poems, essays, and narratives. All seven books are intact and in good shape. The spines are sound with some minor rubbing and scuffing. No writing or staining. The gilding on the top fore edges of the books still has a beautiful sheen. There is no visible sign of gilding on the front and bottom edges. Volume II of his poetical works has a couple of marks from tape being removed from the cover. Please see photos.
